Addressing Tulsa's Affordable Housing Crisis: A Comprehensive Plan for Tulsa’s Future

Updated: Jul 25

“The affordable housing crisis demands urgent and aggressive action. I’m committed to ensuring Tulsa is a safe, affordable and vibrant city."

Tulsa, OK - State Representative and Tulsa mayoral candidate Monroe Nichols has launched a comprehensive plan to solve Tulsa’s affordable housing crisis, which continues to harm families and the local economy.

"Today, we stand at a crossroads. The lack of affordable housing has a crippling impact on our local economy, and solving it demands urgent and aggressive action," Rep. Nichols stated. "I’m committed to ensuring Tulsa is a safe, affordable and vibrant city. This strategy reflects the steps we must take to get there."

Key Goals of the plan:

  • Reduce blighted properties by 60% by 2028

  • Increase affordable housing stock by 6,000 units by 2028

  • Reduce Tulsa’s eviction rate

  • Reduce the cost burden placed on developers to get more housing into the market

Central to Rep. Nichols’ proposal is revitalizing neighborhoods by eliminating blighted properties and converting them into affordable housing units. This addresses the issue of vacant and deteriorating buildings and expands the availability of housing options for low-income residents.

"Together, we must explore innovative financing techniques, forge public-private partnerships, and leverage alternative funding sources to increase the availability of affordable housing stock," Rep. Nichols emphasized. "Collaboration is our greatest asset in building a future where every Tulsan can access safe, stable, and affordable housing.
